Characteristics of Progressive Christians
By calling ourselves progressive, we mean we are Christians who:
- Proclaim Jesus Christ as our window into the character and passion of God.
- Recognize the faithfulness of others who have other names for their window into God’s realm.
- Understand our sharing of the bread and cup to represent God’s feast for all peoples.
- Invite all people to join in our worship and common life as full partners.
- Think that the way we treat one another and others is more important than the way we express our beliefs.
- Find more grace in the search for meaning than in absolute certainty, in the questions than in the answers.
- See ourselves as a spiritual community that strives for justice and peace among all people and seeks to bring hope to those Jesus called the least of his brothers and sisters.
- Recognize that our faith calls us to costly discipleship, renunciation of privilege, and resistance to evil.
